I laugh at myself at times when I think of the fact that I started blogging. My SEOH used to come home and say…Honey, you’d never believe what happened today! Yada yada, google this, algorithm that. Spiders and robots and crawlers! As much as I wanted to, I didn’t understand any of it.
I still don’t understand most of it, but I think I’ve made some progress. I’ve had 3 comments on this blog and a few members in my community so I think I’ve shown some improvement right? I mean at least now when people ask me what my husband does for a living, I can actually explain it to them. Even though, they don’t understand any of it. It’s easier to let them keep thinking he builds websites.

Got something to say?

I shared this post with my wife who has expressed some of the same sentiments and also has come a long way. At times, I think she actually is beginning to enjoy SEO. Now if I can get my parents to understand what we do
Ahhh, the parents. That’s a whole other post.
Glad your wife knows she’s not alone.
I did a little post on this topic on my blog (and gave you a link for the idea).

Hey sHeseltine -
Nice post! When our daughter was in 6th grade the teacher asked everyone to describe what their parents did for a living. She said “My daddy works on a computer.” That was really all she knew to say. The teacher didn’t like that, so for homework she had to memorize some long definition. I can’t remember what it was any more.
Over the years we’ve found “internet marketing” to be an answer that doesn’t leave people with that glazed look in their eyes.
BTW-Thanks for the link. I think it might be my first one.
I must say, this truly made me smile.
My lovely wife tries diligently to try and understand exactly what I’m telling her when she asks…
“So, what did you do today?”
I’ll have to point her here to let her know there really is hope for that blank stare to go away when I answer her!

Tell me about it. I had a meeting with my son’s guidance counselor. When asked what I did for a living, I said “I’m a blogger”. That took a while to explain and she still had that preplesxed look on her face. I can just imagine how John Chow, Heather Armstrong and Darren Rowse are looked at. If I ever get to that level, they’ll really think I’m looney. Not that they don’t already think so. How many people in this day and age have 7 kids?
Love your blog!
