Matt Cutts On SEO Rockstars

by Greg on January 25, 2006

I’m thrilled to announce that Matt Cutts will be joining us on SEO Rockstars this coming Tuesday. (4:00 pm Pacific Time). Matt’s agreed to consider answering whatever questions (other than Google vs. the government) we can come up with, so if you have some SEO questions you’d like us to ask, go ahead and post them either here, or on Todd’s blog.

Sweet – I’ll be tuning it live for that one. On a scale of 1-10, how nervous do you think Matt is? And how many times do you think you will be able to get him to say, “well I can’t really comment on that…”

Have a great time with it!

Hi Greg -

I’m hoping you can ask him about what’s up with 301 redirection and BigDaddy. After about 6 months we (OHWY.com) still seem to be plagued by the inability of the index to follow the 301s properly.

After removing old domains that we redirected to our single main domain all back in the index now. example: http://www.caohwy.com

Our site OHWY.com was doing great in Feb 05 when it went from 50k visits daily to … 5k … now 500.

Matt actually reviewed this site at the WMW session in Vegas so he may remember it.

I would really appreciate if you would ask Matt to respond to the multitude of comments he received when he asked what Google could do in the coming year to better serve webmasters.

Specifically:

1) Pulling the Google services together under one roof for those of us who use GMail, sitemaps, analytics, adsense, adwords, search, blogger, etc etc

2) Some sort of reporting spider that lets site owners know about potential porblems with their sites and/or notifications of penalties so we can act on the problems that many of us are not even aware of

Thanks and REALLY looking forward to this cast!

You might ask Matt what they’re plans are (if any) to add automated rank checking to their offerings. I heard a rumor somewhere that mentioned that they might consider allowing people to check rankings in an automated fashion–other than what they’re doing today.

Dang – I’ll miss the show today unless there’s WIFI at my 9 yr old’s choir practice, but thanks for asking about how to handle wrongly indexed 301 pages and hello to the inimitable Matt Cutts.

Greg – hey, thanks for asking Matt specifically about our 301 problems where old sites are reappearing and we may be getting duplicate filtering.

Unfortuntely the answer about 301 and supplementals seemed really vague – I can’t help but think that sites like ours are suffering from strange interaction of 301s with old page info that they are trying to fix with BigDaddy.

Matt Cutts sounds so much like Aaron Wall. That threw me for *ages* – thought I’d downloaded the wrong show. :)
